Founded in an 17 year old's bedroom out of sheer boredom, the business (then known as Alternative Web Services) began with just a handful of hosting and domain name customers, mostly friends and family.

Having taken a job at a local computer store, Michael was able to utilise his position and came to an arrangement to be the stores sole supplier of web site hosting and domain names for it's customers. This partnership proved to be a great success for both businesses as it gave the store new products and services to supply it's customers with the support staff on-site.

Over the years the business slowly gained momentum to reach an active customer base of 438 customers by July 2005.

In July 2005, a Melbourne-based IT company made Michael an offer to help expand his business by way of investment funding, strategic marketing and an office in Melbourne. Michael made the decision to accept the offer, and his days of working for the computer store came to an end.

Over the next three months, Michael engaged in many conversations with his new business partners and developed a three year plan to re-brand, expand and succeed.

In November 2005, Michael announced his business would now go by the name of Jumba, and began to offer some of the best pricing and service in the Australian web hosting industry.
